Dr Chris McGrath numbers among one of the most qualified and experienced Osteopaths in
the Commonwealth.
![]() Graduating as an osteopath in London in 1984, he
pursued further study at
Strathclyde University, Bioengineering Unit in Glasgow, Scotland,
gaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Biomechanics. After emigration to New
Zealand, he gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational
Health Practice through
the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, University of Otago,
which provided him with specific valuable insight into occupational health practice in New
Zealand. Research in clinical anatomy through the Department of
Anatomy and Structural Biology at the Otago School of Medical Sciences led to a Master of Science (MSc) degree, and his Doctoral degree (PhD), from which he has published several articles in international peer reviewed journals and which continues to form the basis of ongoing clinical research in the Department of Anatomy at Otago University.
In addition to his research and clinical practice at Dunedin Osteopathic Clinic Ltd, he was instrumental in the development of New Zealand Osteopathic professional education with the installation of a five year double degree program for Osteopaths at UNITEC in Auckland. One
of the longest serving members of the ACC Expert Panel that developed
the NZ Guidelines for the Management of Acute Low Back Pain, he
participated in this multidisciplinary process that sought to move the
'usual' management of acute low back pain toward evidence based 'best'
practice.
Dr
McGrath continues an involvement in education and research, holding a visiting research appointment and has contributed to the
clinical anatomy casual teaching for the Department of Anatomy and
Structural Biology, University of Otago. He has published numerous
scholarly articles in anatomical and osteopathic journals and is a
member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Clinical
Anatomists (ANZACA). In addition, he serves as required in the accreditation processes of institutional osteopathic programmes conducted by the Australian and New Zealand Osteopathic Council (ANZOC).
His private interests are diverse, including aviation and music. He enjoys playing the piano and is a keen private pilot, holding a current aerobatic rating.
Likely to be your first point
of personal contact with Dunedin Osteopathic Clinic, Ltd Mrs AeJa McGrath runs the practice with a smile!
Without her effective management at the front desk we would truly
struggle. She juggles all the 'behind-the-scenes' work to keep
the practice running efficiently, liaising with external agencies like ACC to ensure a smooth efficiency. |
