Patient Information Print

At Dunedin Osteopathic Clinic our aim to undertake 'best practice' rather than 'usual practice', that is, manual healthcare practice informed by scientific evidence. To help us achieve Focused Osteopathic Care we will need to gather accurate and relevant data about your condition from you.

Please allow up to 30 minutes for your consultation. A reasonable standard of personal hygiene is required, as would be the case for any physical examination. Mobile telephones should be switched off during your appointment. Children and younger adults (under 16 years) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian or other formally designated adult, during their consultation.

Depending upon the nature of your problem, typically 2 - 4 consultations with an Osteopath may be required over a three to five week period. If your problem is severe, persistent or recurrent you may need more treatment. Treatment is only undertaken after a differential diagnosis is made, your condition explained to you, and your understanding and consent gained.

It is possible that you may require tests like 'x-rays' or 'blood tests'. There may be costs involved in these as Osteopathic Services do not attract a Government subsidy. Where an ACC claim applies, there may be a small surcharge applied by the Radiology Service. It is important that if you have a relevant ACC claim to provide us with the details. Without these we will be unable to progress your claim.

Metered parking is available outside the practice on George Street. There is no private parking available to patients. Dunedin Osteopathic Clinic is located opposite Knox Row and Plunket House, very close to the Albany Street intersection.

Contemporary healthcare practice favours an evidence based approach. Dr Chris McGrath possesses a strong academic and teaching background as well as extensive clinical experience and is mindful of the importance of evidence informed practice.
