As a new patient to Dunedin Osteopathic Clinic we welcome you to Focused Osteopathic Care. It is our aim to undertake 'best practice' rather than 'usual practice'. In order to help us achieve this we will need to gather as much accurate and relevant data about your condition as possible. If you have reports from 'x-ray' investigations or blood tests, reports from General Practitioners or Specialists, please bring them with you to your initial consultation. We will also need to know the prescription medications that you are presently taking as well as any other vitamins, minerals, herbal preparations, exercise and dietry formulations you may also be taking. It is also important if you have relevant ACC claim numbers or an on-going ACC claim to provide us with the details. Without these we will be unable to progress your claim.

Modern healthcare practice favours an evidence based approach to your care. This approach moves 'usual' practice towards 'best practice'. With our substantial academic background and long history of practice, we are very well placed to deliver this standard of care to you. Modern healthcare practice also favours a multidisciplinary approach. As the longest established and senior Osteopathic practice of Dunedin and Otago we are very well known and have a range of well developed health professional relationships to support you. We will not hesitate to refer or direct you to a better solution or appropriate intervention, diagnosis or opinion.

Please allow up to 30 minutes for your consultation. A reasonable standard of personal hygiene is required, as would be the case for any physical examination. Mobile telephones should be switched off during your appointment. Children and younger adults (under 16 years) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian or other formally designated accompanying adult, during their consultation.

Depending upon the nature of your problem, typically 4 - 6 consultations with an Osteopath may be required over a three to six week period. If your problem is severe or chronic (persistent - recurrent) you may need more treatment. Treatment is only undertaken after a diagnosis is made, your condition explained to you, and your understanding and consent gained. It is possible that you may require further tests like 'x-rays' or 'blood tests'. There may be costs involved in these as Osteopathic Services do not attract a Government subsidy, although where an ACC claim applies, there may be a small surcharge by the Radiology Service.
Metered parking is available outside the practice on George Street. There is no private parking available to patients. Dunedin Osteopathic Clinic is located opposite Knox Row and Plunket House, very close to the Albany Street intersection.
